Hey everybody today I wanted to talk about LinkedIn. It’s Steve Lichtman, by the way, from Sales Biology in The Laboratory. So I just wanted to take a minute and talk to you about LinkedIn, and what you’re doing on LinkedIn right now.
So let me ask you all this question. What do you do every day on LinkedIn?
Do you read a timeline? Maybe comment on a couple things, click a couple likes, and celebrates, and move on with your day. Are you looking to gain opportunities and position from LinkedIn? Is it something where you need to be there every day? Do you need to find an audience on LinkedIn?
Because if you do, you probably going to want to start creating content. Original content, original graphics, things that cut through the mold. Nobody wants to see two hands shaking with a link to a post. We’ve all seen that 1000 times before, right? The handshaking of you could use that for at different topics to corporate hands shaking men, hands, women hands, it doesn’t matter. It can be monkey hands. It could be Planet of the Apes really doesn’t matter. We all seen it 1000 times we all feel the same way we go, huh? What did they download from Shutterstock?
Today, you want to take yourself and your audience outside of that, that same curated box that everybody is now, with digital being so easy for people and so quick to grasp. Think about taking a picture of two hands of people, you know, in a different environment, just so it’s going to be somewhere else right just for the sake of it not being this horribly manicured overproduced piece, which has no silver feeling to it.
Now show a picture of you shaking somebody’s hand. That would speak a lot more. Hey, at least I get to see you in your day to day life, right and see what you’re all about.
So think about your LinkedIn. What are you producing? What are you what content are you giving out?
There’s so many people that are marketing on LinkedIn right now and marketing’s a fair word. It’s really about sharing the experience. Right? LinkedIn is growing at such phenomenal rates right now the last year alone. I’ve been working with people on LinkedIn for the better part of five years on a one on one basis of coaching people through what their positioning and how their LinkedIn looks to the world around them.
And one of the biggest things people forget to do is actually post original content. And you don’t have to post it just on LinkedIn, write the article for your blog, on your website, maybe take it as a transcript from a podcast or an audio clip like this and make it into something else. Then take that and copy that over into LinkedIn, because the LinkedIn articles can only be seen by people on LinkedIn. So the search engine value there is fairly minimal in comparison to your website, so you can reuse and repurpose that content.
You know, as you’re having edit done to it, you know, absolutely edit for the scene. You know, one thing that people seem to forget is not every social platform requires the same thing. So for LinkedIn, we know what we’re talking about. We’re talking business. So if you’ve written a post about your, your pet hamster, Freddie, you know that’s not the right place. Just move on. You know, people must have something really pertinent to your business. Unless you’re selling cages right? Well, then then you would be spot on. But for the rest of the world, it wouldn’t be right.
So think about your audience, it’s really important. You know, if you’re dealing with a certain audience, you want to speak to that audience, you want to provide them content and value, share content from other places, don’t be a sounding board of just your own thing. Nobody wants to see a long line of links all to yourself, unless you’re providing content and every single one of them good content, things that people want to see in here.
Don’t be afraid of video, don’t be afraid of audio.
There are so many tools out there that you can use to take an audio clip, such as this and make it into a video where it’s got either images or other things happening on the screen. So it’s not just playing. So you have another medium to attract people that are interested in what you saying do.
Think about it, guys and girls, think about LinkedIn. Think about what you’re doing on LinkedIn.
If you want post in the comments of this, wherever you find this, post in the comments here about what you’re currently doing on LinkedIn, and how you feel about what you’re doing there and what you think that maybe You can take to the next level now. You’ve got a little bit more knowledge of what you’re doing already.
