Hey guys, just a quick message here from The Laboratory. I’m sitting in my car outside of my daughter’s karate class right now. It’s the weekly practice so there may be noise in the background, but that’s okay.
So my point today is really about dedication. We’ve been doing this since she was three years old. That was the first activity she ever started doing since we moved to this town. It’s a weekly event, every week without fail. We get here and she spends the time in the dojo, and then she practices at home. We’ve got pads at home for her to work with. And she comes in once a week and she does her work.
She’s seven and knocking over 10 year olds because of her focus and dedication to what she is doing. It makes me really think about what do we all have? Right? Do we have that focus and that dedication in our own lives, in our own careers, as we travel through life and we travel through different jobs and opportunities.
Are we showing that same focus and dedication to the things that we do in life that this little seven year old girl is doing right now?
I’ve got my car parked right in front by the windows and I can see right through. It’s where I always park so I can get some work done and watch her at the same time. I don’t sit in the dojos waiting room, because everybody’s chatty, and they’re just all complaining about their life. To be honest, a room full of people complaining about their life is just not the room for me. I can’t do it. It just does my head in and it’s too much. I’m way too positive to listen to that this early in the morning because it’s only like 10-11 o’clock in the morning. That’s a topic for another day.
I don’t have a whole lot else to say. I just wanted everybody to think some today; a little bit about what you’re dedicated in and what you’re focused on. If you’re missing that in your life. If you’re just going through your days, and you’re missing that dedication and focus, take a step back. Think about one or two things in your life and in your career that you want to really get good at and dedicate yourselves to it.
It could be that you love to, you know, you love to build things for people. Right? If you’re a consultant that handles processes and organization for companies. You may really want to master the art of building things for people and building systems and processes for people. I know a lot of people that like the process or operations and it is the absolute be all end all for them. It’s the only thing they care about.
And if that’s the case, keep rocking it and do your best. You can just keep building your own systems, name your systems, create your own guidelines for the things that you build. So that way you truly have things that you’ve created that are yours and you feel true ownership for. Truly dedicated to what you built because it’s yours and you created it.
That’s how I feel here about what I do with Sales Biology. It’s a combination of 20 plus years of experience of helping people do things that I love. The one thing I’m lucky about in life is, I’ve loved everything I’ve done. I mean, there’s been times where it sucked, don’t get me wrong. We’ve all had times where things have just gone like a lawn dart right to the ground. We’ve all experienced it.
We’ve all had the ups and downs of our careers that’s a given. But if you keep pushing through it with a positive outlook, and you have that dedication, and that focus, just like I’m watching my kid right now. She’s in a circle of children kicking in a 360 degree circle, they’re all taking turns, and she knocked a little kid back. He is a little boy a couple years older than her. Knocked about eight feet back, because he stumbled backwards, but it’s not bad they land their butts on the mat, so it’s all good.
But, it’s just incredible to watch that she is just so focused. If all of us could just take one minute of our day to think about where we want to put that focus. Make it quick. Don’t drag it out. Don’t spend all day sitting on the computer, googling things and figuring out, “How to learn how to find my true focus.” That’s crazy.
Think about what you do every day. Think about what you love. Think about what your passion is, whether it’s for your personal life or for your career and business life. Take that one thing you want to focus on and just become the freakin’ boss of it. Just own that shit and devour it.
I would love for you to reach out to me and tell me your own plan at firstname.lastname@example.org , or anywhere online at @salesbiology. You know me, I’m not a promo guy. I’m not gonna sit here and bang out a 20 minute promo for how you can reach me, I just did it. It’s all good. You’re smart enough to understand how to get to me. So with that being said, I wish you all a wonderful, wonderful week. And these little snippets are going to keep coming for five minutes apiece and we’ll see how they go. All right. Take it easy, guys.
